The remands of a 52-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman who were arrested last week on suspicion of the murder of 45-year-old Yiannis Argyrou were renewed on Tuesday.

The pair will now remain in custody for a further eight days, having first appeared in court on May 5.

In court, it was heard that the man has maintained his right to remain silent, while the woman has offered some information regarding what happened on the night of Argyrou’s death.

The pair were arrested after the police discovered they had been using Argyrou’s garage to take drugs. In addition, witnesses have come forward to say that the man had stated that he wished to harm Argyrou.

The man was found in a cafe on May 4, the morning after the murder, and was reportedly “upset”. He also reportedly confessed to the murder, saying he had “personal differences” with Argyrou.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Argyrou was found dead in his garage having suffered “more than 10” stab wounds to “many parts of his body”, including his neck.

An autopsy carried out by state pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou concluded the wounds were caused by a sharp cutting instrument.
