Consumer prices in Cyprus rose by 1.4 per cent in April 2025 compared with the same month a year earlier, according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) published by the statistical service on Monday.

In addition, the service reported that the index increased by 0.7 per cent between March and April of this year.

Compared to April 2024, the categories that saw the highest annual increases were recreation and culture, which rose by 7.1 per cent, and restaurants and hotels, which recorded a 5.6 per cent increase.

The most significant annual decline was observed in clothing and footwear, which fell by 7.0 per cent.

On a monthly basis, the most pronounced changes were also recorded in clothing and footwear, which rose by 5.2 per cent compared to March 2025, and in the transport category, which increased by 4.0 per cent.

For the four-month period from January to April 2025, compared with the same period in the previous year, the categories showing the largest changes were recreation and culture and restaurants and hotels.

Additionally, the category of recreation and culture rose by 7.3 per cent, restaurants and hotels increased by 5.3 per cent, while clothing and footwear declined by 5.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, energy prices recorded the most substantial decline across all economic categories.

Compared to April 2024, energy prices dropped by 9.3 per cent, while they fell by 4.7 per cent relative to March 2025.

The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices is a key inflation measure that allows comparison of inflation trends across European Union member states by using a common methodology.
