Gold bars and coins were among valuables confiscated by the Customs Department from Dutch nationals last week at the Ledra street crossing point, it was announced on Monday.

On May 24, customs officers checked three Dutch nationals crossing from the north and found a wooden box containing five gold coins, three 5g bars of gold, one 10g bar of gold and four 20g bars of gold, worth around €14,000.

All items were confiscated due to a violation of the Green Line regulation and suspected income from illegal activities.

Customs and police are investigating.
