A 45-year-old man from Paphos lost €8,500 after falling for an internet scam, the police said on Monday.

The police said the man told them that on Sunday, he had received a message on his mobile phone, which contained a link.

He clicked the link, with the website it loaded asking him to enter his credit card details and then “proceed to a second verification”.

Then, he said, he received a message which stated that the transaction he had wished to make was not executed.

However, he was then informed by his bank that €8,500 had been transferred out of his account.
