Public and private sector collaboration can create a driving force that ‘transforms challenges into opportunities and vision into action’, chairman of the Cyprus Property Developers Association Yiannis Misirlis said during an event dedicated to the island’s real estate and construction sector.

According to a statement from the association, the event took place on June 3 and was attended by president Nikos Christodoulides, MP Fotini Tsiridou representing the Speaker of the House, Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou, along with political party representatives, business leaders, and figures from the country’s economic and entrepreneurial communities.

In his address, president Christodoulides stressed the government’s recognition of the sector as a key pillar of the economy.

He also thanked the association for its cooperation and constructive role in supporting the country’s efforts to foster business growth.

During his speech, Yiannis Misirlis said Cyprus is on a dynamic path of healthy and sustainable growth, one that leaves a meaningful mark on the economy, society, and the country’s future outlook.

He also referred to Cyprus’ effort to join the Schengen area, describing it as a strategically important development that would contribute to a more outward-looking and European Cyprus with an active role in shaping Europe’s future.

Highlighting the enduring significance of the real estate sector as one of the most dynamic pillars of growth and prosperity in Cyprus, Misirlis emphasised the importance of protecting the profession and safeguarding the interests of consumers.

He also announced that the association had submitted a proposal to the Interior Minister aimed at establishing a modern, comprehensive, and functional framework for the official recognition of the profession of land development entrepreneur.

During the event, Yiannis Misirlis welcomed three new members to the Cyprus Property Developers Association, presenting them with their certificates of membership and saying that their inclusion would further strengthen the association’s mission.

The association went on to honour architect Andreas Photiades, civil engineer Marios Santamas, and architect Nikos Santamas for their significant contribution to establishing the institution of horizontal property division in Cyprus.

In particular, in 1957, they designed and constructed the AMANI building, the first apartment complex in Cyprus with separate title deeds.

This marked the beginning of homeownership on the island, making it possible for Cypriots to acquire their own homes without needing to own land.

Furthermore, Misirlis reiterated the importance of cooperation and dialogue with the relevant authorities, aiming at the ongoing improvement of the sector for the benefit of the Cypriot economy and society.

Finally, the association donated a financial contribution to the Cyprus Association of Parents and Friends of the Pediatric Oncology Unit.
